An acronym for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), a web service that provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. 

Amazon EC2 provides scalable computing capacity in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. You can use Amazon EC2 to launch as many virtual servers, or instances, as needed. Amazon Linux is a stable, secure, and high-performance execution environment for applications, such as Scuba, running on Amazon EC2.
